This Saturday 24 September is Heritage Day which is arguably the most important public holiday in South Africa as it is the day we celebrate the essence of what makes us ‘us’. It is the day of the year where we get together and collectively reflect on our past and salute the people who fought for our freedom, for our culture and for our history.
To do this, we traditionally partake in activities quintessentially South African to recognise our cultural history, like braaiing meat with friends while supporting a national sports team. But the essence of South African culture is not only boerewors, pap and a cold Castle. It goes deeper than that – it is our warmth and infectious positivity.
We are a young democracy but we are a tenacious one. And in the spirit of harmony, why not come and celebrate our cultural heritage by making friends over fine food and wine at The Rumbullion this Heritage Day.
